Baby Floris: Week 17

Anyone else have a case of the Mondays today? Or do you have the day off for President’s Day?

The kids I coach have the day off so we met up for morning practice to try and avoid the heat but it ended up being 80* at the beginning of practice at 7:30am! This February weather is seriously crazy. I know, I know… most of the country is freezing their butts off and I’m over hear complaining about the heat but if this trend continues I don’t know how I’m going to get through the later months of this pregnancy without spending every single day in the pool!

This weekend baby and I hit 17 weeks – let’s catch up on what’s been going on. 🙂

Baby Floris - Week 17

WHAT’S BABY FLORIS UP TO?

Lavinia is the size of a turnip (or a pomegranate).

She is approximately 5 inches long and weighs about 6 ounces. She’s sure grown this last week!

Her skeleton is currently made from cartilage but it turning to bone.

She is putting on some fat, to keep her warm when she is born – which contributed her her massive weight gain this week! 🙂

Her umbilical cord is also growing stronger and thicker.

WEIGHT GAINED

At my appointment on Friday I was up 9 pounds.

WORKOUTS

My runs this week were pretty great. You can read my full training summary here.

SYMPTOMS

24/7 thirst, slight hip/sciatic pain, trouble sleeping (waking up to pee, waking up for no reason and not being able to fall back asleep, not being able to wake up).

MOVEMENT

Not yet, but my midwife told me that it’s normal for first time mamas not to feel their first movement until closer to week 20. When we were listening to Lavinia’s heart rate during my appointment on Friday my midwife had to chase her around with the doppler because once she found it, we’d be able to hear it for 10-15 seconds before she moved somewhere else in my tummy. So I know she’s an active little one in there – I am getting so anxious to finally feel it!!

FOOD AVERSIONS

Sweets – the other day I thought some Ben & Jerry’s Cinnamon Bun ice cream sounded good but after a few spoonfuls I couldn’t eat anymore…. I sure hope I get my love of ice cream back after Lavinia’s arrival!

FOOD CRAVINGS

Burritos (breakfast and normal), pizza, bagels w/ cream cheese and raspberry preserves, Italian subs, chips…. basically anything doughy and salty!

SLEEP

Terrible. My Snoogle definitely helps but some days it’s worse than others… like Friday night when I woke up at 3:30am and couldn’t fall back asleep until 5.

MATERNITY CLOTHES

Some tops are maternity but I really, really need to buy some maternity bottoms because all of my normal shorts/pants are getting tight!

STRETCH MARKS

Nope!

MISS ANYTHING?

Luckily not too much! Just Henri – but he will be home in 26 days!

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT?

Making its way towards a full on outie! The other day in class my friend asked me if I had my belly button pierced but turns out it was just my belly button poking at my shirt!!! :O

GENDER

GIRL!!!!

BABY ITEMS PURCHASED

Oh yes! I talked about this on Friday but I was poking around Marshall’s and ended up leaving with 23 onesies that were all on super sale! My goodness – girl clothes are so fun to shop for! 🙂

FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Not pregnancy related but the highlight of this week was by FAR going to see the Olympic Trials Marathon! I also wore my “running for two” tank top that Henri bought my for Christmas
