Happy Global Running Day

Happy Global Running Day!

I hope that you are able to get out there and enjoy a run to celebrate today. Whether it’s solo or with friends, outside in the sunshine or stuck on the treadmill – get that run in! I’m due for a 10 mile workout with 3x 10 minutes this afternoon (I chose sleeping in this morning) so instead of complaining about how hard it is I’m going to try and focus on how thankful I am for this sport and use all the inspiring #globalrunningday posts as motivation to get through each interval.

Part of the day is about celebrating the sport of running and our passion for this crazy “hobby” we’ve chosen for ourselves. If you’re interested in my running journey I’ve shared a little bit about it here and on my About Me page. I seriously CANNOT believe that I’ve been running for 16 years… where does the time go?

Running has brought me so much joy. It has brought me some of my closest friends, my fondest memories, a husband ( 😉 ) and a fulfilling career. My life literally would not be what it is today without running.

My motivations for running have changed throughout the years – when I started it was because cross country was the only sport 7th graders could do at my middle school, in high school and college it was to compete and win races and when I was pregnant it was to stay healthy and keep a semblance of myself while my entire body was changing.

But now: I run for my daughter. I run to show her that women can be strong and fit and fierce. I run because I LOVE it and I want her to know that moms are “allowed” to take time for themselves. I run because I want her to see that I love my body and am proud of all the things it can do. I run because it makes me a better person, a better wife, and a better mom!
