Injury Update & Plans for that Spring Marathon I was going to run…

Hey there! Did you have a good weekend??

Mine was great! Friday night my family took me out for a special goodbye dinner. We went to Casa Romero – this little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant in Boston.

We all shared the quacamole, chips and salsa. Everything was so fresh, and you could tell that it was homemade.

For dinner I got the Chicken Mole Enchilladas – they were soooo tasty! I’m a big fan of mole but I think this is the best one I’ve ever had!

My family can always make room for ice cream so we walked passed J.P. Licks on the way back to our car only to find out that location isn’t there anymore! 🙁 But don’t worry we still stopped at one of our favorite places (Cabot’s) on the way home. Death by Chocolate in a sugar cone with chocolate sprinkles = my fave!

Saturday was spent cleaning, and doing some last minute packing before hopping on a plane to LA. I’m officially a California resident again!!!

It feels so good to be back!

Okay, so I think I owe you guys an injury update, huh?

I started feeling this weird discomfort in my hip at the end of March (I won’t say pain because that’s not really what it was). And stopped running immediately because the hip is a very complicated joint and I didn’t want to even flirt with the idea of doing something worse to it.

I saw my amazing physical therapist who assured me that it wasn’t anything bone related (phew! stress fractures are always my biggest fear!) BUT  that my hips were out of alignment and twisted about two inches to the left. This was causing my femur to not fit into the socket correctly which was causing the discomfort in my hip and a whole lot of muscles in my left legs to be overly tight/sore.

I saw a chiropractor two days later to get my hips adjusted and put back where they belong. He confirmed what my PT had said and after 10 minutes or so everything was all fixed – as far as alignment goes.

I continued to see my PT 2 times a week for the next 3 weeks and she cleared me to start trying some runs the weekend that we were in San Francisco. I still have a lot of hip, glute and oblique exercises that I have to do in order to keep my hips and femur in the right alignment but I had my last appointment with my PT on Thursday and I’m cleared to start increasing my mileage and doing speed work and long runs again. YAY!

The only thing that I’m not cleared to do it run a spring marathon. The San Diego RnR Marathon is just 6 weeks away and I want to be smart and not risk injury by trying to cram marathon training into that amount of time.

So for now I’m just focusing on getting better, faster and stronger and hopefully I’ll be racing some shorter races this spring/summer! 🙂

I’m just so glad that I’m back running almost every day!

Oh – and I’ll see you next year Boston!!!
