Lavinia Grace: 2 Month Update

Last Monday Lavinia turned 2 months old! I cannot believe how fast time is passing since she was born! How on earth are we already 1/6th of the way through her first year? This past month Liv has changed so much, she is much more alert and aware of her surroundings. I’m loving seeing her explore the word she lives in!

STATS: We just had Liv’s two month check-up on Friday and she weighed in at 10lbs and is 22.5 inches long. She’s is growing into quite the little butterball. 🙂

Liv is officially in 0-3 and 3 month clothes, although I think this is partially because we transitioned into cloth diapers which make her bum sizably larger. We still have her in disposable diapers over night since they are more absorbant and in those she’s bumped up to a size 1.

EATING: We are still breastfeeding on demand. With me going back to work and school this last month I’ve also been pumping. Typically what that looks like is during her early morning feed before I leave for practice I feed her on one side and pump the other simultaneously. Then I leave that pumped bottle for my MIL to give to Liv when she wakes up. I’m so grateful that Lavinia has taken well to the bottle and transitions well between bottle and breast.

Liv has definitely become more efficient at breastfeeding so her time nursing each day is down significantly. I’m also so so happy that she is starting to stretch out the time between her feeds. I didn’t feel comfortable forcing her onto a feeding schedule so it’s nice that she’s finally going 2.5-3.5 hours between feedings now.

SLEEP: Liv is an incredibly good sleeper for a two month old. She sure loves her sleep… just like her dada! I didn’t follow any one sleep training philosophy but I did do a lot of research and once she hit a month started taking steps to help her sleep through the night. I went into this “sleep training” expecting it to take until 3 months or so to get her sleeping a good 12 hours at night, but we got super lucky. Since about 7 weeks old Liv has slept 7p-7a with just one (sometimes) 2 feedings in the middle of the night. I’m going to take the same approach to dropping these night feedings as I did with stretching out the time between her feedings, and just follow her lead. I’m currently surviving on the amount of sleep I’m getting so I’m in no rush.

One aspect of her sleep that isn’t consistent yet is naps. She generally takes 2 longer naps in the morning and afternoon and a short, cat nap about an hour before bedtime. I’d like her naps to be more predictable so I’m thinking of starting on some nap training this month.

LIKES:

cuddles
nursing
sleeping on mommy or daddy’s chest
her pacifier (when she wants it)
walks
watching the dogs walk around the apartment
riding in the car
having her arms/hands up by her head
being in the Moby wrap
being unswaddled in the morning
being held facing out to watch everything around her
Facetiming daddy
Mommy’ singing voice
her Mamaroo
kisses and raspberries
bathtime
“sitting up” like a grown up

DISLIKES:
her pacifier (when she doesn’t want it and you try to give it to her anyways)
Being in her car seat when the car or stroller isn’t moving
having a dirty diaper
having a burp that she can’t get out
The process of being swaddled (she’s fine once she’s wrapped up tight)

FIRSTS:
First time Facetiming daddy
first time sitting in the main service at church
first trip away from home (to big bear with the XC team)
first “play date”
First tear while she was crying

THINGS I WANT TO REMEMBER:

  • The way she recognizes Henri even over FaceTime and gives him the biggest smiles when he talks to her
  • the way she smiles and splashes in the bath tub
  • The way she is so alert and soaking up everything going on around her
  • the babbling sounds she makes
  • the coo she makes right after she sneezes, it’s so cute!
  • her cute little pout when she’s upset and trying not to cry
  • her smile when I come home from practice in the mornings
  • how she just loves being snuggled up close to me and sometimes that’s all she wants and all it takes to calm her down

Even after two months I can’t believe this sweet girl is ours. She brings so much love and joy into our lives! Love you to the moon and back Lavinia Grace!
