Malibu for A Day

Happy Wednesday! I hope you are all having a great week so far!! Mine has gone by in a flash – but nothing too interesting has happened so I’m going to pop back to this past Saturday and fill you guys in on a fun day trip that Henri and I took!

Henri is leaving later this week for an extended business trip (WHYYYY AM I IN CROSS COUNTRY SEASON RIGHT NOW??!? I would be packing my bags right now if my kids didn’t have a race nearly every weekend from now until the end of November!!) so I planned a fun date day up in Malibu for his last weekend at home. We were going to stay overnight Saturday and then realized that any hotel in Malibu is $500+ a night and scratched that idea… Haha. Still we filled the time we did have with lots of fun activities!!

We started the day  bright and early and grabbed some coffee and pastries at Canabru for the drive up – hot latte and lemon-cranberry muffin for me and an ice mocha and blueberry muffin for the hubs. šŸ™‚

IMG_9149(btw – I am LOVING this blue polish I got at my last manicure – so fun!!)

After a stop in Santa Monica to check out the Saturday Farmer’s Market and walk around 3rd Street Promenade we headed up to to the ‘Bu for lunch. We had heard that our old “date spot”, Howdy’s, had closed about a year ago but it was still a bummer to see that a new restaurant in it’s place. Howdy’s was even part of the scavenger hunt that Henri sent me on during his proposal! Sad stuff…

IMG_9154After wiping away our tears (kidding, kidding) we got sandwiches and chips at John’s Garden. We had to fight away a few vicious pigeons but our food really hit the spot!

IMG_9158Next up on the agenda was walking around Pepperdine – they’ve been working on quite a few renovation projects recently and Henri and I haven’t been up for about a year and a half. It was fun to see all the updates but also to know that the campus is still pretty much the same as we remember – ahhh, college memories. šŸ˜€

I seriously can’t believe that we lived here for 4 years, sometimes it’s easy to forget/ignore how lucky we really are. I mean, this was the view from the cafeteria!!!

IMG_9167We hit up the bookstore and left with a few new Waves items. I’ve been living in my Pep V-neck and I think every cup of coffee this week has been drank out of my Waves Mug, haha.

The beach took up the rest of our afternoon – the weather was the perfect temperature and for once the water was actually WARM!!

We read (The Boys on the Boat is getting even better), napped, took a dip in the ocean and soaked up the sun. After we had worked up quite the appetite we packed up our things and headed to one of our favorite Malibu dinner spots.

Henri and I both LOVE Thai food – it’s the one time that we can actually agree on dishes to share – and Cholada was our absolute faves during college. It was a pretty far drive from Pepperdine (especially in weekend traffic) but it was always worth the extra time it took to get there.

We shared the Golden Bags as an appetizer (Crispy wonton filled with ground chicken and shrimp served with sweet sauce) and they were so amazing – although we couldn’t figure out if we were supposed to eat the green things used to tie them up or not.

And for the main course their special beef w/ Thai broccoli and of course Pad Thai!!! Everything at Cholada is so tasty and fresh, the service is friendly and fast AND you get a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean to boot! It is the perfect place for date night in Malibu.

And that wraps up our day date to Malibu! It was shorter than expected but just what we needed before we are apart during his business trip (more details on his exciting opportunity to come šŸ™‚ ).

Have a great rest of your Wednesday!

What is your current go-to nail polish color? I used to be all about the dark purples and burgendys but I’ve been trying to branch out recently.

Do you like Thai food, what is your favorite dish if you do?
