Palm Springs Anniversary Trip Day #2

Sunday morning of our trip I had a long run on the schedule but it was already 90+ degrees out so I headed to the hotel’s gym to knock out 11 miles. Luckily, Henri wanted to sleep in and was still snoozin’ when I got back to the room around 8. The gym was right next to the pool and when I finished my run there were only a few people out swimming. The afternoon before the pool had been PACKED so we decided to take advantage, grabbed some of the fruit we had brought and headed down to the pool.

We lounged, played some volleyball in the pool (with a beach ball) and I finally started reading Wild, the book that Henri got me for Christmas! After a few hours we were ready for brunch so we loaded all our stuff back into the car and made the 20 minute drive to Cheeky’s.

Before our trip I was researching brunch places in Palm Springs and the moment I found Cheeky’s I knew we had to go. The food and drinks are all homemade, they change their menu each week AND they offer a bacon flight with 5 different types of bacons that you can try! How could we say no to that?

Well, apparently that’s how a lot of people feel because when we put our name in we were told that the wait was about an hour. We took it in stride and walked down the street to grab some coffees at Koffi while we waited. My latte was delicious but choosing to drink a hot beverage outside in 90* weather was a bit questionable on my part.

Henri, always the wise man, went with the iced coffee!

We grabbed one of the free USA Today’s that were laying around and took it out to the garden behind the coffee shop to work on the crossword puzzle. We only got about 50% of the puzzle done but for us on a Sunday that’s pretty good!

I’m glad that we ventured away from the restaurant for a bit because the wait ended up being closer to an hour and 45 minutes and sitting in the garden was much more relaxing than just standing outside the restaurant forever. When our table was finally ready (at 1pm – a bit late for “brunch”) we ordered drinks to celebrate (1) our anniversary and (2) the fact that we had actually secured a table! haha

As a breakfast “appetizer” we shared the bacon flight. I totally spaced and forgot to take a picture but the 5 flavors this weekend were Nodine’s Applewood Smoked, Red Wine, Jalapeno, Beller Apple Cinnamon and Rosemary Sugar. My two faves were by far the Jalapeno and Rosemary Sugar!

For my meal I ordered the Buttermilk & Fresh Corn Pancakes w/ blueberries – I was a little skeptical of the corn/blueberry combo but it ended up being perfect. I can’t wait to try to replicate these at home… they were that good!

Henri went with one of his all time favorites – Tomatillo Chilaquiles topped with sunny side eggs!

We definitely left Palm Springs and headed home with full bellies and happy taste buds!

Hot or Iced Coffee?

Do you like crossword puzzles?

What is your favorite breakfast/brunch food? It is soooo hard for me to order anything other than pancakes!
