Refueling After Your Run w/ FAGE Total

Happy Friday! I hope you have some exciting plans in the works for the weekend. We have a true race weekend lined up with Henri racing a 5K tomorrow and me the half on Sunday. Hopefully between all the running we can fit in some fun (although the running itself is fun, right? right?) and good food. Oh, and the weekend will definitely end with some Game of Thrones! 😀

This post was sponsored, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

As you know, I have some big goals for my fall/winter racing season this year. In order to set myself up for success I am analyzing each facet of my training and working to improve them all. Running and racing well is about more than putting in a lot of miles and hard workouts – strength training, sleep, recovery, mental training, hydration and nutrition are all key to successful training.

Over the first few weeks of this marathon training cycle Henri and I have been focusing on improving our nutrition. Specifically we’ve been doing our best to refuel properly after our runs. It’s been hard to do so because with our little one running around we don’t have much time to spend in the kitchen after our run. This is where FAGE Total steps in!

We’ve always been big Greek yogurt fans in this family but when Lavinia started eating solids and was able to eat yogurt I found that most brands were loaded up with sugar.  I started buying FAGE Total because it’s all-natural and doesn’t contain any added sugar – believe it or not the only ingredients are milk and live active cultures. We’ve continued to use it because it is really tasty, in addition to having a great tang it is incredibly thick and creamy.

After a hot, summer run I love to load up a bowl with FAGE Total, stir in some honey for a little natural sweetness, and top it off with fresh berries. FAGE Total is loaded with protein which is so necessary to aid in recovery after a hard run or workout. And when it’s topped with fresh berries and honey you have the perfect ratio of carbohydrates to proteins to refuel after your run.

Some days I’m in a hurry to get out the door after my run so I whip up a quick yogurt-fruit smoothie to enjoy on the go! (<– this happens a LOT, I feel like I eat breakfast in my car 99% of the time right now). My favorite right now is to blend FAGE Total 2% Plain Greek yogurt with strawberries, blueberries, ice, almond milk and a little bit of honey.

One of my favorite things about FAGE Total 2% Plain Greek yogurt and FAGE Total 0% Plain Greek yogurt is that they are nonfat and low-fat while still being very filling and satiating because they are protein packed! When I eat FAGE Total for breakfast I can make it all the way until lunch without getting “snacky” around 10am.
