Thanksgiving Weekend & Christmas Tree Shopping

Hi there!

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and first “Christmas weekend”. Ours was busy in the best possible way!

Thanksgiving morning Henri and I were up bright and early to meet his sister at the Plymouth Rock ‘n Roll Turkey Trot in Anaheim. The race started at 8am which was perfect timing, the weather had started to warm up from the 45* it was when we were driving over but wasn’t too hot!

Our goals were to just run and have fun and we were all pleased with our times. 18:49 for me, 19:22 for Henri, and 30:31 for his sister (her goal was 31mins so she crushed it!). Henri and I even got first in our age groups!

After the race we went home to get ready for the day, loaded all of the food we were contributing to dinner into the car and headed over to Henri’s parents’ house. I tried something a little out of the box for the apple pie this year and spent a good hour or so making this lattice top and acorn crust. It was quite the hit!

I also made pumpkin and chocolate mousse pie but forgot to take any pictures – they were delicious though!

While people were still arriving we munched on appetizers and Henri and I Facetimed with my family for a bit. I sure do miss these goobers when I’m away for the holidays!!

But it sure helps when they send me Snapchat selfies with Grandpa! 🙂

A little before 4 we sat down to dinner – turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, green bean casserole, stuffing, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, ham and rolls! After just one plate I was STUFFED!

We spent the rest of the evening hanging out with Henri’s cousins, eating pie, playing games and watching football. It was a very relaxing Thanksgiving.

Friday and Saturday were taken up by the California Cross Country State Meet! We drove my boys varsity team up to Fresno because our top boy qualified – the first boy from our school since 2008 to make it to state! He had a great race and Henri and I both had fun taking the kids to dinner and to a BBQ lunch after the race – but the driving took a lot out of us.

Sunday morning was the usual pancakes and church before we headed out to Peltzer Pines to pick up our Christmas tree. We had so much fun wandering through the rows and rows of live trees!

We picked out the perfect one, got it chopped down, loaded it onto the car and brought it home only to realize our Christmas decorations have gone missing sometime in the last two moves!

On the docket for this week is finding the ornaments or shopping for new ones so we can finally decorate! 😀

How was your Thanksgiving weekend?

Did you do any good Black Friday shopping?

When do you buy your Christmas tree? Henri and I like to buy ours the weekend after Thanksgiving so we can enjoy it for the whole month of December!
