The Weekend Recap: A Tough Weekend

Happy Monday! Did you have a good weekend? The past few days were rough in the Floris household but we did manage to squeeze in some fun along the way.

Friday

The hardest part of the weekend was saying goodbye to Henri on Friday afternoon. He’s off on his first business trip since Lavinia was born and it was even harder than I expected so see him drive away! Lavinia sure is going to miss her daddy but he’ll be home before we know it!

The only thing that made Friday a little better was that my mom came into town! She’ll be here helping me and Liv out while Henri’s gone which is so so nice – I seriously don’t know what I would do without her!

Friday evening we took Lavinia to her hearing screening (the birth center doesn’t do them like hospitals do so we had to go separately). She had to be asleep for the test but even though girlfriend was asleep when we arrived she woke up when the tech was attaching the equipment and would NOT go back to sleep. Cue over an hour of feeding and rocking and trying to get her to go down to no avail. Since we had gone wayyy over our appointment time and the office was closing for the day we had to reschedule for another day in a few weeks… whomp whomp.

Saturday

Saturday Liv was a great little sleeper so after sleeping in until 7:30, changing and feeding her I headed off for a quick run while my mom watched her. I was participating in the Nuun Challenge Dash Virtual 5K so I headed out for a nice 3.1 mile loop. I wasn’t looking to run fast or anything (3 miles is about my limit right now) and ended up with 8:04 average pace. There’s definitely a lot of room to improve back to my previous fitness but I’m so pleased with where I am for 6 weeks postpartum.

After a lazy morning my mom and I headed out for some errands around town and then drove out to OC for some cooler weather and to check out a church that my mom does some online Bible studies with. Liv wasn’t so sure what to think of the long car ride.

Before church I was so hungry that we pulled into the nearest shopping center for some food. The Indian place caught our eye and I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and veggies which came over Basmati rice. It definitely hit the spot! Indian isn’t one of our usual go-tos either so it was nice to get something a little different.

While we ate Lavinia took a little snooze in the Moby.

Church was great but Liv was quite fussy so I spent most of the service rocking her in the back of the room, and ended up in the nursing mother’s room for the second half while she had a marathon nursing session. She was fussy off and on during the car ride home and for the rest of the evening until she went down for bed a little after 8. She definitely started developing a bit of a witching hour the past week and the start of that coinciding with Henri leaving has just made the evenings that much tougher!

Sunday

Sunday morning I woke up to a very happy baby, after she nursed she was totally hamming it up and making all sorts of silly smiles and faces.

My mom and I decided to take a nice, long walk when Liv seemed ready for a morning nap which was a good idea because she went right to sleep. We thought it would be fun to pop by Henri’s parents’ house during our walk so we stopped by and visited his mom for a little bit.

While we were there sitting on the couch and chatting Liv just let one rip! She was in my mom’s lap at the time and I saw this look of horror just come over my mom’s face… there was baby poop dripping down her legs! :O

Since we had just been out for what we thought was a walk around the neighborhood we had NO reinforcements (ie. diapers!). We got my mom cleaned up, took off Liv’s dirty diaper and all rushed to pile up in my MIL’s car so she could drive us and the nakey baby home!

Needless to say, Lavinia needed a new outfit after that episode. haha

We were able to get some errands done after we got Lavinia all cleaned up then headed back to Henri’s parents’ house for an early dinner. That was followed by another fussy evening before bath/bedtime and a little TV to end the weekend!
