Weekend Eats & My Spring Marathon

This weekend was just what I needed after all the travel and activity last weekend. Lots of running, good food, and friend time were involved.

My training partner had a commitment Saturday morning at 9 so we met up super early at 5:45 to get in our long run (I had 18 and she had 21). It sure does feel good to be done with your long run by 8:10 in the morning!

Saturday afternoon Henri and I drove into Brookline to have lunch with one of my good friends from high school and her boyfriend. Henri and I have been wanting to go to Cutty’s since we saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and it just so happens that it’s right by their apartment which was perfect! Henri and I ordered the Roast Beef 1000 and Pork Rabe sandwiches and shared them. They were both so delicious and really hit the sweet salty spot I needed after 18 speedy miles.

Sunday we had a pretty lazy day. Because of daylight savings we slept in until 8:15ish which was awesome. Church, banana bread baking, an 8 mile run, a grocery run and coaching work also happened  and before I knew it it was 5:00! Why do Sunday’s fly by?

I made my mother-in-law’s tacos & Mexican rice for dinner because we had to use up some queso fresco we had on hand and they were really really tasty. I should make these more often but they are a little labor intensive so they end up being more of a special treat from time to time.

Now onto the more exciting news of the day!

I’ve been waffling back and fourth about which spring marathon I want to run for awhile now. At the top of my list was Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, MN because it’s a fast flat course and the quality of the field there is outstanding. It would be great to get the experience of running with a fast group of ladies but it turns out that my dad’s retirement party is the same weekend as Grandma’s so I shifted my focus to my second choice – the San Diego Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon.

My coach and I discussed San Diego and decided that it would be a good option. I was recently accepted to run as one of the elite runners so now it’s officially official!

San Diego RNR

On May 31st I’ll be running my 4th marathon!!!!

This race actually holds a special place in my heart because 2 years ago I ran the last 10 miles with my BFF Paige and she knocked out a big PR! So I can’t wait to back and do the same thing! 🙂
