What I Ate Wednesday: San Francisco Eats

It’s been a long time since I participated in What I Ate Wednesday but we had so many tasty treats in San Fran that I figured they deserved a whole post to themselves and what better way than with a WIAW? Thanks Jenn for hosting! πŸ™‚

The foodie highlights from our quick trip were…

On Friday morning we had breakfast at Cafe La Taza. It was convenient because it was right by our hotel but the food ended up being really tasty and definitely hit the spot after a long night of travel! Oatmeal and a latte for me and a breakfast burrito for Henri – he’s been dying to have a “real California breakfast burrito” for months so he was alllll smiles after this meal!

After a long day of walking around in the sun gelato sounded like a great idea! We hit up Gelateria Naia in Little Italy because we had seen it earlier in the day. I had the TCHO Chocolate and blood orange and they were both AMAZING!

One of my favorite foods that is hard to find in New England is Pho so I was just a little excited when we found a Vietnamese restaurant right near our hotel. We went to Miss Saigon and I ordered the Pho Ga (chicken) and except for the fact that they serve lemons instead of limes on the side it was PERFECT!

After our meal Henri and I were laughing at our different approaches to eating Pho. He focuses 100% on the noodles and meat…

… and I’m more meat/broth focused. I have no idea how he eats all of those noodles I felt like I ate a bunch and my bowl was still half full! haha

On Saturday morning we had to pick up our rental car and start our drive north for the wedding so we needed something quick and easy for breakfast. Henri was a bit shocked, but wicked excited, when I suggested Bob’s Donuts. I’m not usually a big donut person but I’ve read about Bob’s multiple times on Janae’s blog and have been dying to try my first apple fritter ever since.

Bob’s did not disappoint and I was officially an apple fritter convert after one bite! Henri was also really happy with his custard filled chocolate bar! If you are ever in San Francisco you’ve GOT to go to Bob’s – but go early. When we got there a little after 9AM they were starting to run out of the best things!

Our last order of *food* business before we hopped on our red eye flight back to Bean Town Sunday night was a stop at In N Out. I’m not usually a fan of In N Out fries but this time I finally got up the nerve to ask for mine to be extra crispy and that made all the difference.

Man, we did a lot of eating on our quick trip! But I promise we did the walking to make up for it. If you are looking for some good food in San Francisco I would recommend any of these places. Trust me – I don’t take my job as “unofficial restaurant critic” lightly. πŸ™‚

What is your favorite kind of donut?

What was the tastiest thing you ate this weekend??
