Marigold Lee Floris: 2 Month Update

2 months of Marigold Lee! I can hardly believe it. She has brought so much joy to our family over the past 2 months and I can hardly remember our lives without her. It seems like so long ago that I was waking up every day waiting, waiting to go into labor! (oh, how time flies when you aren’t super pregnant anymore… ha!)

At 2 months old Marigold is just so sweet! She grew out of her little fussy phase that she had around 4 weeks really quickly and is now such a content baby. She really only cries when she is hungry, wet or tired. She is a really good little sleeper and is killing it at the nursing game, mama doesn’t have much to complain about at all. Oh! Except for the diaper blowouts – girlfriend has MASTERED the skill of blowing out diapers! Ooof!

I’m still in awe of how big Marigold is! After having a tiny baby it’s so crazy to see the difference. She’s only 2 months old but she’s already wearing 3 month clothes (and some are getting snug!) and size 1 diapers. At  6 follow-up week appointment with our midwives she weighed 10lbs 13oz which means by now she’s probably already gained 2+ pounds since birth.

In the last month Marigold has found her voice and is starting to vocalize a lot more. Her coos and goos are my favorite and when she’s in a talkative mood I could just sit and make faces at her forever to get her to keep talking.

She is such a smiley baby and when she smiles it lights up the room! I’m convinced she has a little dimple on her right cheek but it might just be because her cheeks are just so adorably chunky right now. I suppose only time will tell.

This month she went on her first flight! We flew from CA to SC to visit my parents and besides figuring out the logistics of changing diapers and taking a toddler to the restroom on the plane by myself everything went smoothly. Marigold did cry as soon as we pulled up to our gate until we got off (on both flights) but other than that she didn’t make a peep and slept a lot throughout the day. Gosh I forgot how relatively simple it is to fly with a newborn!

In SC she got to meet her Auntie Melissa, and I’m pretty sure it was love at first sight because Marigold was all smiles when Mel was holding her.

We’ve also spent a lot of our time in SC visiting with my grandparents which has been so fun. They didn’t meet Lavinia until she was a year and a half old so I’m so glad that I was able to make the trip out to them when Marigold was so young. Marigold’s middle name, Lee, comes from my grandma so it’s been special to see them together, Marigold is always happy when she’s in great grandma’s arms.

One of my favorite things about the last 2 months has been watching Lavinia become a big sister and seeing the bond that Marigold and Liv are already forming. Liv is obsessed with her sister and Marigold is just fascinated by Liv. I feel like I’m already seeing glimpses of their relationship a few years down the road and it’s seriously the sweetest thing ever. (They’ll love each other all the time and never, ever fight right??)

One of my favorite memories from this month was when I brought Marigold into Lavinia’s room after nap time and laid her down in the bed and Liv snuggled up with her and Marigold fell back asleep. My mama heart just about melted!

I am just loving this phase with Marigold and am trying to soak up every moment as best I can. There have been a lot of naps on mommy, middle of the night snuggles and many of Lavinia’s naps that have passed with me and Marigold just snuggling in my bed. It has been worth every minute of lost productive to get a little more one-on-one time with my girl.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to be her mom and can’t wait to continue watching her grow and learn over the coming months (and years)!
