My Favorite Honey Stinger Products

Hello hello!

Recap from the Hot Chocolate 15K will be up tomorrow! I surprised myself and have recovered pretty quickly and was able to do a pretty solid (and fast!) workout this morning. 6x 800m @ an average of 2:35 (5:10 pace) + 2x 400m at an average of 74 (4:56 pace). I’m really, really looking forward to my 5K on the track in 2.5 weeks, based on how my training has been going I think there’s a good chance that I’ll be able to take down my 7 year old PR! 

Today I wanted to share a bit about my favorite Honey Stinger products. I’ve been using Honey Stinger’s gels, chews, waffles and bars for years now and this year I’m lucky enough to be a part of their Hive Elite Program. I tend to have a finicky stomach while running and racing and after a lot of trial and error I’ve found that Honey Stinger’s gels and chews work the best for me. I think it’s because the main ingredient in both of these products is honey which is simple, natural and easily digestible. I was first convinced to try Honey Stinger’s products because they are easily digestible due to being made with honey but I’ve continued to use them for years because in addition to being easy on the stomach (when the last thing you want is to have stomach troubles) all of their products are made with natural ingredients, and many are even organic. AND they taste delicious!  

I get a lot of questions about which HS products are my favorites and how/when I use them so I wanted to devote an entire post to the topic 🙂

DARK CHOCOLATE COCONUT ALMOND PROTEIN BAR

This is probably the product that I eat the most often! I always have one within 3o minutes of finishing a hard workout or long run to kickstart my recovery and sometimes even on easy days I’ll munch on one after my run because they are just so tasty! They almost taste like a fancy 3 Musketeers bar because the consistency of the chocolate on the inside is very similar. I also always keep one of these bars in my purse/backpack in case I get stuck out and about and get hungry.

Chocolate + Honey Flavored Waffles 

I’m sure all of the waffle flavors are yummy but my absolute favorites are the chocolate and honey (the lemon is pretty good too). I will have eat a waffle before a run if I don’t have time to eat a full breakfast and they hold me over really well until I get home. They would also be great to take on a hike or for a snack on a bike for anyone that is cycling or triathlon training. 

Pink Lemonade + Lime Ade Energy Chews

I will use these chews from time to time during hard, long workouts and long runs. I lean towards citrus-y gels and chews (besides orange) and these are both the perfect amount of sweet and sour. If you like caffeine in your mid-run/race fuel the Lime-ade flavor has added caffeine from white tea – I love that it is a natural source.

ENERGY GELS

During CIM the fuel I had on hand was the Gold Energy Gel – it works really well, tastes just like honey but has some added electrolytes that you need when you are running that far. I also love the Acai Pomegranate and Strawberry Kiwi flavors. I’m also experimenting with mixing them with water to see how I like that compared to the gels themselves. Like the Lime-ade chews the Strawberry Kiwi flavor has added caffeine to give you a boost in those long runs and races.
