Tuesday Thoughts + Training Summary from last week

Howdy friends!

I feel like I have so much to do this week because I only have 3 days to cram it all into. After this past weekend’s work trip to San Diego for a track meet we have a really quick turn around and are heading up to San Francisco on Thursday for the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. I hate missing so many days at home in such a short span of time but the silver lining of this trip is that I get to race too! Yay for 10Ks on the track! I’m also excited to come home and have it be Easter – I’m actually on top of my game this year and Liv’s Easter basket is all packed, we actually have white eggs for dying (I usually buy brown eggs) AND the plastic eggs are stuffed with candy. Who am I?!?

Anyways, I thought that I’d pop in today and share some randoms from the past week or so – and at the end I have my training summary from last week (just a few days late, haha).

1 – Yesterday Lavinia and I decorated cookies for Easter – for all of my bragging above about being on top of things I originally bought the mix for these cookies and frosting for Valentine’s Day, never got around to making them, decided we’d make St. Patrick’s Day cookies instead – that didn’t happen. So they’ve now become flowers for Easter/spring. I guess I should just be patting myself on the back that we got around to this activity at all. haha. Liv’s favorite part was definitely taking small bites of almost every cookie and putting the sprinkles on top.

2 – For Christmas my in-laws pre-ordered me Jessica’s (from How Sweet Eats) newest cookbook, The Pretty Dish, and it finally came out last week! I came home from my trip on Saturday and it had arrived! I am soooo excited to start cooking out of it, everything looks delicious!

3 – The location of the 2020 Marathon Trials is still TBD but today I heard (via Allie Kieffer’s Instagram) that if Atlanta wins the bid they are going to pay for the travel for every. single. qualifier! For those who don’t know, if you hit the A standard USATF provides funding for your travel expenses to the trials, but if you “only” hit the B standard – like me – you have to pay your own way. I really didn’t have a preference on the location of the trials until I heard this (I was actually kind of pulling for Austin just because it’s a cool city I want to visit) but now I’m definitely rooting for Atlanta because they would be providing so many runners with the opportunity to participate in the trials without it being a financial burden on them.

4 – This past Saturday night I got to go out with some of my mom friends. I can’t believe our kids are 1.5+ years old and it’s the FIRST time we’ve done this! We had so much fun leaving the kiddos at home with their dads, eating a hot meal (with both our hands) and enjoying some girl talk. Oh! And the best part – we finished the night with some tasty ice cream. I got Chocolate Lavender and it was sooooooo good – I think I may have to recreate something like it at home!

5 – On Sunday I finished my long run with a stroller mile to the park so that Liv could play for a little bit before her nap. She is getting so adventurous and she climbed up to the top of the “big kid” slide and went down it all by herself for the first time. I just love watching her do new things!!

6 – I’m already sad that I only have 2 more races left on the track before I transition back to the roads. I knew that I was going to enjoy these shorter distance races but I honestly forgot just HOW much I love track workouts and racing on the track – there’s nothing that really compares to it!
