Where to Run in Malibu: Cheeseboro Canyon
Chesebro, Cheeseboro, Chesboro – whatever you call it this is one of my favorite trails in the Malibu area!
When running at ‘ches’ there are two different parking lots that you can choose from. If you want access to a nicer bathroom before you start (aka one with flushing toilets) I suggest parking at Old Agoura Park. If you don’t need access to a bathroom before your run you can simply park at the Cheeseboro Trailhead.
There are a few important things to know before heading to Cheeseboro
- It is highly-trafficed by runners, hikers, bikers and horseback riders – so make sure to pay attention to the posted signs and follow trail etiquette.
- There are a lot of wildlife so be alert – I’ve seen lots of rattlesnakes and coyotes here.

The info sheet on Ches from the National Park Service can be found here. It even includes a trail map!
Whichever route you choose here will start uphill, it is gradual but you do still feel it. I promise though that it just makes the way back feel even better since you’re going downhill the whole way.

Below I will link some of my favorite routes here, if you click on one it will take you to route on Strava where you’re able to download the GPX file to send to your watch. You can’t go wrong with any of the routes but if you have a long enough run to do the loop I would highly recommend! The views at the top are INSANE!
