Baby Floris #2: Weeks 17 + 18

I am officially 4 months pregnant! … which means we are going to have another baby in 5 months! ahhh, that sounds so soon!

Recently I’ve found myself going back and forth between calling Liv my big girl and my baby. She is just growing up so fast and I feel like she is so huge compared to the little newborn we are about to welcome but at the same time she will always be my first baby. Any other second time mamas feel me on this one? She and I were playing together a few weeks ago and I picked her up like she was a baby and started rocking her and telling her about how little she used to be and how I used to hold her like this all the time. She thought it was so funny and we laughed and laughed… ever since she periodically lifts her arms up to me and says “up! I baby” and we do it all over again. It is one of my favorite things right now – it brings back so many memories of her newborn months and makes me excited for little sister’s arrival!

The past two weeks have flown by because work has been so busy/hectic. I can’t believe we’ve already known we are having another girl for over 2 weeks. Let’s take a little look at what’s been going on in this pregnancy since week 16. 🙂

WHAT’S BABY FLORIS UP TO?

WEEK 17

Baby is the size of a pomegranate! Her cartilage is turning into bone and she is starting to put on some fat.

WEEK 18

Baby is the size of an artichoke. She is yawning, hiccupping, sucking, swallowing and generally moving all around in there.

WEIGHT GAINED

I didn’t have any appointments during this time so I haven’t weighed myself. During my first pregnancy I stopped paying attention to my weight gain because I found it a little harder to see the number than I expected it would be. I gained a totally normal amount of weight but it was so weird to see a number on the scale that could have been my husband’s weight. This time around I’m actually kind of interested in seeing the number, I think this might be because I know what my body is capable after birth so seeing the number grow isn’t as scary. I kind of expect to gain a little more this time around because I started this pregnancy 7 pounds lighter than I was when I got pregnant with Lavinia. I’m prepared to let me body do whatever it needs to to carry this baby safely and I’m confident in the fact that I’m staying active and eating healthy (for the most part) so I trust my body to gain the weight that it needs to.

WORKOUTS

WEEK 17

I ran 5 days this week for a total of 22 miles (total pregnancy miles so far = 484.5). Things were busy at work this week so I didn’t have any time to fit in cross training this week.

WEEK 18

I ran 5 days this week for a total of 28.5 miles (total pregnancy miles so far = 513). I also did a 15 minute leg-focused strength workout and a 30 minute JasYoga video. I am so excited to be a little over halfway to my (loose) goal of running 1,000 pregnancy miles. Considering that I took off 3 different weeks early on [one because I had a sinus infection, one as my “post-track season break” and one during our vacation to Amsterdam) I think I’m pretty much on track to achieve this goal 🙂

SYMPTOMS

These are still holding pretty consistent – a little lower pain discomfort and the varicose vein on my left calf. I’ll take it though because they are such minor inconveniences (I still have vivid memories of the acid reflux I had the last month or so with Liv and I’m sure that’s ahead of my again so for now it feels like I’m getting off easy).

MOVEMENT

Yes, and I love it. I can’t wait until she gets bigger and her movements become even more noticeable from the outside.

FOOD CRAVINGS & AVERSIONS

Cravings: pickles, cheese & crackers, milk (Lavinia is on a milk kick right now too so we are going through an excessive amount of milk each week), anything involving milk like cereal, iced latte, etc.

This past week was the first time this pregnancy that I had a legit – gotta have it right now craving – and Henri had to stop on his way home from work on Friday night to buy some Pillsbury cinnamon rolls. haha

Aversions: still not too many aversions.

SLEEP

Sleep is still pretty good. I do have trouble falling asleep some nights but my nights aren’t restless and I’m not to the point yet where I’m waking up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Right now I’m soaking in all the sleep that I can get because the cross country season starts this week as will the 6:30am practices it brings.

MATERNITY CLOTHES

Yes, all day every day. I am kind of frustrated though because all of the maternity clothes that I have from my pregnancy with Lavinia are so stretched out from my big ole belly last time that they are a little baggy/don’t fit how I’d like. I invested in some good quality maternity clothes that I liked assuming that I’d wear them through 2-3 pregnancies but I’m kind of at this weird stage where my belly is too big for my regular clothes but doesn’t fit in my maternity clothes yet. I’m soooo tempted to buy a few more maternity shirts that I love to get me through until my shirts from last time around fit again.

STRETCH MARKS

Not yet.

MISS ANYTHING?

Not really.

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT?

Out – and it’s not going back anytime before this baby is here.

BABY ITEMS PURCHASED

I ordered a set of floral prints for baby’s nursery from Hilary Proctor Studio on Etsy. I heard of her shop on Instagram because Katie posted about a print she got for her daughter’s room and I immediately fell in love with the style. It’s a custom order because I wanted a specific type of flower, so I don’t know exactly what it will look like but this is what her style looks like.

FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE WEEK

WEEK 17

Deciding on little girl’s name! We thought that it would be really hard to come up with a name and there were a lot of names we were considering but when the name we chose came up I immediately knew it was the one. Henri took a few days to settle on it for sure but baby girl officially has a name now. We are slowly telling family and friends and still aren’t sure if we are going to share widely before she is born or not.

WEEK 18

Henri feeling the baby move for the first time! I’ve been feeling little girl move for a few weeks, and her movements could be felt from the outside (she kicked at the doppler at my last midwife appointment when the midwife was checking her heartbeat) but she was consistently getting “shy” every time I excitedly told Henri. He would touch my belly and she would immediately stop moving. Finally on Thursday this week we were watching TV and he felt her kick for the first time! Such a sweet moment 🙂

LOOKING FORWARD TO

WEEK 17

Getting my anatomy scan ultrasound on the calendar. Our doctor’s office is supposed to be calling me any time now to set up a time for that appointment. I haven’t really experienced much anxiety during either of my pregnancies but it is always a relief to get back good news from the anatomy scan and I’m looking forward to having that hurdle behind us. And Henri will most likely be able to come to that ultrasound (it’ll be the first appointment he comes to this time around) so I’m excited for that part as well.

WEEK 18

My mom coming into town this Sunday! A week from today I leave for pre-season training camp with the cross country team that I coach and since Henri couldn’t get the week off work to come with my mom is flying out so that she and Liv can join in the week of fun up in the mountains. I can’t wait to spend some quality time with my mom and Liv!
