Baby Floris: Week 34

Wow, these weekly baby updates really got away from me the past few months. When you’re in the middle of it [it being pregnancy] it’s so easy to feel like nothing changes from week to week. Now it’s been two months since my last update and looking back it’s funny that I used to think my 25 week bump was big… just look at this basketball that I’m smuggling around now! 😀 haha

WHAT’S BABY FLORIS UP TO?

Lavinia is about the size of a cantelope.

She is probably somewhere between 17.2-18.7 inches long and 4.2-5.8 pounds – BUT at this points babies grow at increasingly varying rates so this is really just a ball park.

She can hear and recognize voices, music and sounds, sense light and is producing up to a pint of urine every day. She’s one busy baby in there!

WORKOUTS

Ever since my fall while running I’ve been taking it a LOT easier on the running front. I took 5 days off per the doctor’s orders, ran a few miles a day the following week then didn’t run a single step on our trip to Paris but walked upwards of 8 miles almost every day we were there.

Since we got home I’ve been running but just 1-3 miles a day. To keep my activity level up I’ve been walking on top of that as well – and the dogs definitely aren’t complaining 😉 . I’m hoping to keep this routine up until as close to delivery as possible because I just feel better when I get to run in the morning! Even if it’s just for 10-15 minutes.

SYMPTOMS

I’m so thankful to have remained relatively symptom-free in the 3rd trimester. The only things I’m dealing with regularly are…

  • Lower back pain when sitting for long periods of time
  • Hip discomfort – mostly just while running
  • Trouble falling asleep some nights
  • Increased need to pee (duh!)
  • Slightly swollen feet
  • Acid reflux/heart burn – this is the only symptom that really gets under my skin because it’s so uncomfortable. Last night I literally had to sleep sitting up because my reflux makes it too uncomfortable to lie down

MOVEMENT

We had a BUSY BEE on our hands, that’s for sure. My midwife is having me to a kick count every day to monitor her movement. I lay down and record how long it takes her to move 10 times. At a minimum I should feel those 10 movements in 2 hours but our little girl is an overachiever and hits 10 movements in 15-20 minutes!

FOOD CRAVINGS & AVERSIONS

Not going to lie, I was totally looking forward to having pregnancy cravings but here I am 7.5 months pregnant and I haven’t really had any crazy cravings. The best way I can describe my “cravings” is that I’m more suggestible than prepregnancy… aka – someone says they want a cinnamon roll and suddenly I want one too, but if the moment passes I’m fine whether I get the cinnamon roll or not. It’s weird and a little disappointing because I totally wanted those “Henri run to the store and get me chocolate ice cream because I need it right this second” cravings that are the hallmark of pregnancy.

SLEEP

Luckily my sleep has been really, really great! I have had trouble falling asleep some nights but that was mostly while we were in Paris so for the most part I’m chalking that up to the time difference. I do wake up in the middle of the nights more often than before with some acid reflux symptoms or a full bladder but nothing that I can really complain about.

MATERNITY CLOTHES

Yes! My wardrobe is pretty limited these days because I have two pairs of shorts, two pairs of pants, maybe 10 tops and a few dresses so I feel like I’m wearing the same things week after week. I’m in the final stretch so I can’t justify buying any new clothes so for now I’m just rolling with what I’ve got!

STRETCH MARKS

Still no – so I’m hoping that means I’m in the clear **knock on wood**

MISS ANYTHING?

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT?

Out! But getting flatter the bigger my belly grows.

BABY ITEMS PURCHASED

Henri was determined to buy something special for Lavinia during our trip to Paris and when we saw this adorable sketch/painting in a little outdoor market in Montmartre we knew it was the perfect thing! I think it perfectly completes the mini gallery wall above her dresser… and will be a good reminder of our amazing babymoon during all those dirty diaper changes to come, haha.

FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Well since it’s been 2 months since my last update there’s been so many amazing moments but my recent fave has got to be laying on the couch in our AirBnb in Paris, unwinding after a long day of exploring and watching Henri’s reaction to one of Lavinia’s particularly enthusiastic active times. His face was priceless – especially when an elbow or knee (or other small body part) stuck out like crazy!

LOOKING FORWARD TO

Picking out a pediatrician and doula – I have a few interviews set up this week with potential pediatricians and doulas and I’m really looking forward to finalizing those two details. After those two decisions we really just have to pack our bags for the birth center and we’ll be ready for little one’s arrival!
