Baby Floris #2: Weeks 13 + 14

Happy Monday!

We are officially 14 weeks into this pregnancy which is crazy to me. It really is flying by, I’m already starting to wonder how we’ll get everything done with the house that we want to before baby gets here. After Henri and his dad wrapped up Lavinia’s bathroom we’ve been taking a little breather from the major renovations but we kind of need to get cracking on our master bathroom (the last major, major project) soon because we are hoping to have a home birth and that bathroom definitely has to be done in order to do that.

When I was pregnant with Liv I attempted to do these pregnancy update posts weekly (I kind of started failing towards the end) but this pregnancy I think I’m going to stick with the bi-weekly updates. Here’s what baby and I have been up to the last 2 weeks – weeks 13 + 14.

WHAT’S BABY FLORIS UP TO?

WEEK 13

Baby is the size of a lemon. He or she is forming vocal chords and teeth. They already have fingerprints and their organs are moving from the umbilical cord into their tummy.

WEEK 14

Baby is the size of a peach. He or she can wiggle their fingers and toes. They are also growing lanugo (peach fuzz hair) all over to keep them warm for the next few months.

WEIGHT GAINED

WEEK 13

8 lbs

WEEK 14

I didn’t have any doctors appointments this week so I didn’t weigh myself

WORKOUTS

WEEK 13

I ran 5 days this week, for a total of 24 miles (total pregnancy miles so far = 386.5). I took one full rest day on my birthday and we went on a 2 mile family hike on Sunday and I wore Lavinia in the hiking backpack.

WEEK 14

I ran 5 days this week, for a total of 28 miles (total pregnancy miles so far = 414.5). I did a quick strength training session on Wednesday and took a rest day on Saturday because we walked a lot at the zoo.

SYMPTOMS

Not too many, the light nausea that I have been experiencing has gone down significantly and I hardly ever feel nauseated anymore. The first trimester exhaustion has also gone away which I am so thankful for. The varicose vein on my left calf has definitely gotten more prominent again but I’m trying to do a good job of wearing a compression sleeve or sock when it’s either painful or I notice that it is larger than normal. The last symptom I’ve been experiencing is hormonal acne, this didn’t happen the last time but in the past few weeks it’s gotten so bad that I made an appointment for a facial last week. I’m hoping this one doesn’t last my entire pregnancy because it’s not very fun to feel like you have new pimples popping up every dang day.

MOVEMENT

Nope – can’t wait for that first flutter though!

FOOD CRAVINGS & AVERSIONS

I haven’t had too many aversions this pregnancy. For a lot of my first trimester coffee just didn’t sound appetizing but now I’m loving my morning cup of coffee or afternoon iced latte again (of course I’m being careful with my caffeine intake). As for cravings, I am LOVING fruit (mostly berries), lemonade, raspberry sorbet and finally had my first craving for chicken salad this pregnancy. Chicken salad is not something that I usually eat or crave so it’s pretty funny to me that in both of my pregnancies I’ve LOVED it! (I don’t think I’ve even had a jar of mayo in our house in the two years since I was pregnant with Liv haha).

Since it’s so hot out I’m also loving any meal that is cold/doesn’t require turning on the oven… like the soba noodle salad from Run Fast. Eat Slow.

SLEEP

I already busted out my Snoogle because my hips were getting a little sore sleeping on my side (I’m usually a tummy sleeper). Some nights it takes me longer than usual to fall asleep but once I’m asleep I have pretty good nights.

MATERNITY CLOTHES

I’m still wearing non-maternity shirts and can wear my looser non-maternity pants and shorts (like if they have a tie or stretchy waistband) but for the most part I’m rocking some maternity shorts. I only have two pairs of maternity shorts from when I was pregnant with Liv (and they have the full panel) so I used some of my birthday money to order a few new pairs with the inset panels since it’s so hot out and I don’t really need the full panel ones yet. I’m also starting to feel a little frumpy in my non-maternity shirts because they hang/cling in weird places so I’m looking forward to the bump growing a bit so I can start wearing my maternity tops.

STRETCH MARKS

Nope!

MISS ANYTHING?

Not really, the only thing I’m having a little bit of FOMO about is training for a fall marathon. So many people are starting their training cycles and it’s a little hard not to be a part of that when I see everyone’s runs and races on Instagram but I am really enjoying how my running has been going and how I’ve been feeling when I get out for a few easy miles.

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT?

OUT!!

BABY ITEMS PURCHASED

Nothing yet. I have been browsing for a glider for the nursery but we’re going to wait until we find out the gender to make any major purchases. I also don’t feel like we need much because we’re happy with most of the products that we have from Livy. Semi-baby related… we bought Liv’s bed for her big girl room so that her crib (which is converted to a toddler bed right now) can be passed down to her little brother/sister when they arrive.

FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE WEEK

WEEK 13

Getting my first ultrasound! It was so special to see baby for the first time, hear their heartbeat again and just be reassured that they really are in there! I think it took a little longer for the reality of this pregnancy to set in because I didn’t feel super sick the first trimester so seeing our little one was just so special. And having Liv with me was just so much fun because she seemed to really understand that there is a baby in my tummy.

WEEK 14

When out of the blue Liv pointed at my belly and said “I kiss!” before planting a big old kiss on her baby brother or sister. I just love that she understands what is going on (at least to a certain extent) and loves on me/her sibling. She is just going to be the best big sister!

LOOKING FORWARD TO

WEEK 13

Celebrating Lavinia’s birthday this coming weekend at the zoo with my in-laws, sister-in-law and her boyfriend. Henri’s sister is going to a wedding the weekend that is closer to Lavinia’s birthday so we’re celebrating a little early.

WEEK 14

Lavinia’s actual birthday on Thursday! I seriously cannot believe that this picture was taken a whole year ago! She has changed so much in the last 12 months.

I’m also really looking forward to my next appointments with both my midwife and my OB. Liv is going to come to the midwife again so I’m excited for her to continue getting used to the birth center and the midwives and nurses that work there. AND I’m really looking forward to my next OB appointment because if they do an ultrasound I think we might be able to find out little one’s gender! AHHH!

Thank you so much for following along with these pregnancy updates, it is really fun to share. If you’re interested in what weeks 13 + 14 were like during my first pregnancy check out these posts…
