Baby Floris #2: Weeks 21 + 22

22 weeks, aka 5 months! Ahhhh! Where is the time going? The past two weeks have been two of the quickest recently, probably because life is always so busy during cross country season. There are only 7 weeks left in the season and I just know that I’m going to blink and be 30 weeks pregnant before we know it! We’ve been making a lot of progress around the house recently… purging a lot of stuff that we’ve accumulated and just generally making room for baby girl. I went through all of Liv’s hand-me-downs and got rid of a bunch and sorted the remaining outfits into boxes by size so that’s been the main baby-related project recently. Next up is building Liv’s big-girl bed and getting her new room ready so that we can move her over and get going on the baby’s nursery. I’m really looking forward to getting even more settled in our little home. 🙂

WHAT’S BABY FLORIS UP TO?

WEEK 21

Baby is as big as an endive! Her digestive system is developing and working to produce meconium.

WEEK 22

Baby is as big as a coconut and she is sleeping in cycles – for a total of about 12-14 hours/day.

WEIGHT GAINED

At my midwife appointment around 21 weeks I was up ~15 lbs.

WORKOUTS

WEEK 21

I ran 6 days this week for a total of 28 miles. I was on track to hit 30 if I did a 10 mile long run but I ended up taking Lavinia with me in the jogging stroller and there was no way 10 miles was happening with the stroller! (total pregnancy miles so far = 601)

WEEK 22

I ran 5 days this week for a total of 28.1 miles. I also ran the LaceUp OC Half Marathon half marathon on Saturday and surprised myself with a 1:38:12. It was a great event and I’m already looking forward to the other LaceUp races that I’m doing this fall! (total pregnancy miles so far = 629)

SYMPTOMS

My current list of symptoms is relatively short but includes:

  • intermittent acid reflux
  • sore lower back
  • a growing varicose vein that is generally not painful but sometimes bothers me
  • a tendency to start feeling a bit off when I haven’t eaten in a while.
  • more emotional in general

MOVEMENT

Yes! More and more all the time, I’m really loving it. The most exciting thing that happened this past week was that I saw her move from the outside and just a few days later Henri got to too!

FOOD CRAVINGS & AVERSIONS

The only craving that I’ve been having on a consistent basis is milk. Liv is also going through a milk stage right now so we are going through gallons of whole milk in our house like it is going out of style!!! I also really crave red meat a few times a week which is a lot different than normal.

I’m so so thankful that I haven’t experienced many aversions this pregnancy but the one that does come to mind is coffee – I’m still all about those iced lattes (because give me all the milk!) and I can do espresso based drinks but just plain old coffee just doesn’t taste great these days.

SLEEP

The sleep that I’m getting right now is pretty good. I’m not getting as much as I would like because of the early morning wake-ups that come along with cross country season but I can’t complain because I’m not waking up in the middle of the night yet.

MATERNITY CLOTHES

All day every day!

STRETCH MARKS

Not yet!

MISS ANYTHING?

Feeling a little bit of FOMO this week about not signing up for the Boston Marathon but I’m trying to remind myself that I really do not want to run a marathon at 3 months postpartum.

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT?

Out!

BABY ITEMS PURCHASED

No major purchases these past few weeks. We’ve been too focused on starting to make decisions for our master bathroom renovation.

FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE WEEK

WEEK 21

Running my long run with Liv in the BOB. I am just soaking up every minute that I have with her these next few months. She is my little buddy and I just know that she is going to be the best big sister!

WEEK 22

Rounding the corner at the finish of my half marathon and seeing Livy up on Henri shoulders. She got the biggest smile ever on her face and was saying “hi mommy!” It was the best feeling of the morning by far!

LOOKING FORWARD TO

WEEK 21

The half marathon! I never ran that far while pregnant with Liv, and I don’t think I did any races (besides a 5K when I was still secretly pregnant) so it’s going to be exciting to tackle that challenge this time around.

WEEK 22

Getting a prenatal massage this week! After the half my hips and lower back were a bit sore and while they’re doing better now I think a massage will really really help.
