Life Lately & Mid-Week Rest Day

I know I promised you a race recap and I know that it’s already Wednesday but since I was rolling solo on race day I have NO photos from the race. I’ll figure out how to right an exciting recap without pictures and get back to you tomorrow šŸ™‚

For now let’s get caught up and chat about life lately….

Lately I’ve been: eating lots of tasty food

I made Tyler Florence’s Spaghetti Carbonara on Friday night and it was amazing!!! Definitely the best I’ve ever made at home. If you’re a carbonara fan you’ve got to try this!

After the race expo on Saturday I realized that I was a mile away from Cafe Rio and just HAD to stop and pick up my favorite salad – the Barbacoa!!

Henri’s been working every day the past two weeks so we weren’t able to fit in “date night” this past weekend BUT he surprised me on Sunday night with a quick frozen yogurt date after he got home from work. He’s the sweetest!

Lately I’ve been: really focusing on my strength training

Since I probably won’t be running another marathon until next spring at the earliest I’m shifting my focus to speed – specifically 5Ks, 10Ks and half marathons. At these distances strength training is CRUCIAL to maintain proper form and build speed. I rediscovered the Nike Training Club app that I loved a year or so ago and have been doing those workouts again!

I’ve also been bringing back some of my personal favorite strength routines and will make sure to share!

Lately I’ve been: spending some quality time with the pups

I really missed them for the week and a half that we were apart (they drove to Cali with Henri before I flew) so I’ve made sure to spoil them ever since I got here! We walk every morning and night, play in my in-laws’ back yard…

Lately I’ve been: CRAFTING!!

Henri and I have a small budget to decorate the apartment with but buying a brand new, big, comfy couch just didn’t fit into what we could afford. Instead my MIL and I took a day or so and transformed my XL twin mattress from college into a couch! We did it all for less than $80 and looks pretty darn cute if I do say so myself šŸ˜‰

Lately I’ve been: taking it easy on the running

I had big dreams of a track workout this morning but ever since Sunday my IT band has been crazy tight and not at all fun to run on. I was able to get in two easy days yesterday and Monday but figured if I want this to clear up ASAP the best thing to do was take a rest day. So some light yoga and a hike with a good friend it is!
