Post-CIM Funk

How long is it normal for the post-marathon blues to last? Asking for a friend.

It’s me. I’m the friend.

In December I ran the California International Marathon and had my first ever DNF (did not finish). A sharp pain in my abdomen started causing me pain around mile 6 and after 15 miles I just couldn’t do it anymore. I was disappointed + extremely frustrated with my body.

I tried to stretch out my training block to run another marathon in February but I found myself burnt out and discouraged by the idea of running another marathon without sorting out “the pain” so I called my season and took 11 days completely off of running.

I’ve resumed training and have some fun short distance races on the horizon but I’m still stuck in a bit of a running funk. I set very lofty goals for myself in 2022 and after falling short of every. single. one. I think a little mental reset is necessary.

I’m still running and training and planning to race in the coming months but I’m keeping things low-key and just having fun with it until my running mojo comes back!
